Suideroord Old Age Home believes in community participation and a representative from the Governing Council and/or Senior Management serves on the following community institutions

BUSINESS INVOLVEMENT AND SPONSORSHIPS

The community of Bredasdorp carries Suideroord on their hands

  • Annual grain donations by farmers

  • Annual donation of sheep for auction from our agricultural area

  • Donation by farmers of manure for gardens

  • Donors contributing to fundraising through bazaar /disposable adult nappy fund and relief fund for needy residents

  • MOOV /Round Table sponsored Golf Day for the benefit of Suideroord

  • Mattress jumping in a local garage showroom with participation by schools, service organizations, businesses etc

  • Annual bird hunting trip with local farmers escorting and entertaining the hunters afterwards at local wineries

  • Lion’s Club with Operation Bright Sight project with free eye tests and spectacles for indigent residents, as well as sustained adult nappy and toiletries donations

  • Local businesses sponsoring newspaper and magazines

  • Vegetable donations

  • Clothing and magazine donations

  • Toiletries and “Adopt a Granny” pocket money project

  • Annual collections by Dutch Reformed Church Bredasdorp and Dutch Reformed Church Suidpunt congregations.

VOLUNTEERS

Suideroord’s staff is strengthened with volunteers who, at no charge, make their skills and time available as follows.

  • Serve as board members

  • Presentation of activity e.g. singing club, exercises, spiritual activities

  • Tuck shop

  • Visit the lonely elderly residents in their rooms

  • Youth from schools with "Adopt a Granny" project and help with fundraisers

  • Helping with serving communion and doing the collection during the Sunday broadcasted worship service.

  • Training of staff

  • Assist with organizing and hosting fundraising projects and functions

LOCAL SUPPORT

​Suideroord's network liaison results in local support being provided, with the following services being offered within Suideroord.

​​

  • Hairdresser visits Suideroord twice weekly

  • Private Physiotherapist visits residents on request

  • Private Occupational Therapist advises staff on individual cases and regularly offers dementia training

  • State Doctor visits Suideroord weekly for a one-hour session

  • Private Doctors visit Suideroord by appointment/request

  • Beauty Therapists visit Suideroord on request

  • 2 Volunteers run a tuck shop with basic toiletries, sweets and fresh fruit

  • Several religious leaders visit members for spiritual support

  • Intergenerational program continuously engages youth from 5 schools

ACTIVITIES

  • Monthly Bingo afternoons

  • Bi-weekly Mobile library visits

  • Various game activities, card and board games

  • Cultural activity, e.g. choir, music and dance performances

  • Bi-weekly Nightingale singing group 

  • Knitting groups

  • Light exercises twice a week on the patio

  • Hairdressing services available at minimal cost

  • Mani- and pedicures weekly at a cost

  • Wi-Fi Services in Luxury Living Units

  • DSTV in Common Rooms

  • Affordable DSTV Packages for rooms

  • Music and Movie DVD shows on request

  • Weekly shopping trips

  • Special excursions with local ACVV Service Centre

  • Weekly prayer sessions for different denominations

  • Church channel: Direct worship services on the patio and in rooms

  • Intergenerational programs
