WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR ADMISSION
Permanent Admission

Temporary Admission
Suideroord Old Age Home also provides temporary care for a family who wants to go away for a weekend/holiday and need care for someone who is in their full-time care, whether an elderly, sick or disabled person.
A special care unit is available for persons who require special care during a recovery period following surgery. A palliative bed is also available in a single room to ensure optimal privacy for the resident and his loved ones. Care in these units is for a maximum of 3 weeks, after which the situation is re-evaluated.

HOW DOES THE SELECTION POLICY WORK
After an interested person submits his/her application, several additional forms are completed regarding the person's health and personal circumstances. If it appears that the application is urgent, it is sent to the Department of Social Development for selection together with a Financial Report.
Selection takes place in 3 categories depending on the physical and mental health of the person. A physically healthy person, who, because of senility and/or social circumstances, cannot stay in his / her own home, as well as the disabled, can be presented to the Department as a merit case.
However, there is no subsidy for a Group 1 approved (applicant is self-sufficient) - and only a small subsidy for a Group 2 approved (application requires partial care) and they are then responsible for the rest of the unit costs. Boarding fees will accrue according to a subsidy sliding scale calculated for persons with an income less than R1900.00 p.m.
